Accessibility Statement

The Villa d’Oro is an old property which has grown over the years. As such it has uneven levels and some odd sized steps which pose some accessibility challenges with narrow doors through thick granite walls making wheelchair access impossible.

If you do have impaired mobility, we would appreciate if you would contact us before booking so we can discuss your requirements and make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible.

The House in General

Entrance to the Villa d’Oro is through a gate from the road. The paving is in good condition although there are slight differences in the levels between the path, surrounding paving slabs and the road.

There is a shallow 10cm step up into the covered porch, and a bell to ring to summon assistance.

Another 10cm step through the front door takes you into the entrance hall.

The reception/sitting room is on this level.

The breakfast room is down a short sloping hallway through a door under the stairs and is on one level. The door to the garden has a raised lip.

The Rooms

Room 1 has a separate entrance from the front patio area. There is 16cm step up into the room.

Room 2 is on the ground floor off the entrance hall and opposite the sitting room.

All other rooms are up the stairs to the first floor with another half flight to rooms 3 and 4. There is no lift.

Rooms 9 and 10 are on the first floor hall with an additional three deep steps at either end of the hall leading south to Rooms 5, 6, 7, 8 and north to Rooms 11 and 12.

Nine rooms have a shower in the bathroom with the shower tray raised between 10cm and 16cm above the floor.

Three rooms have a bath with hand held shower attachment. The baths, basins and toilets are of standard height.

The Garden

The outside areas fall into three sections;

The Patio area immediately outside the breakfast room has some sloping paving to facilitate drainage and there is a change in the level of the paved area towards the pool (5cm) indicated with a white painted strip.

The Pool is fenced and the gate remains closed at all times. It is in a paved area with the pool lining raised 2-5cm above the level of the paving. There are narrow steps leading into the pool and a hand rail for assistance (NOT support). The shallow end is approximately 100cm deep and the deep end is 170cm deep.

The pool is available only to residents of the Villa d’Oro at the times specified and only by those able to swim. Children must be supervised at all times by an adult within the pool surround.

The Lawn is raised 60cm above the Patio and is accessed by two areas of steps, the first using granite slabs 20cm high onto rustic paving and the second using 10cm paved steps. The lawn is uneven and care must be taken whilst walking on it.

Separated from the lawn by low wooden edging is the Boules Pitch which is a chipped stone surface. This can be uneven after rain and constant play. Care must be taken.
